The spatial web - the ability to create 3D environments within Web 3.0 through elements such as AI, AR, VR and the Internet of Things (IoT) - is the fusion of the physical world and virtual realities. It takes its name from the fact that information exists in ‘space’.

Although this space is not physical it is deeply integrated and in separable from our reality.

By vastly improving intuitive interactions and increasing our ability to deliver highly contextualized experiences—for businesses and consumers alike—the Spatial Web era will spark new opportunities to improve efficiency, communication, and entertainment in ways we are only beginning to imagine today. For forward-thinking leaders, it will create new potential for business advantage—and, of course, new risks to monitor.”

People will be able to explore previously inaccessible locations using 3D models and virtual reality is making it easier for people to discover new places without having to physically travel there. This will also make it easier for users to take advantage of resources in their area such as businesses, services and public spaces. The spatial web will also create new opportunities for collaboration in real time, creating a better senses of community and connection. To reach this stage we are awaiting the widespread adoption of 5G connectivity and mass adoption of the hardware needed to better enable such immersive interactions between people and places.

The spatial web is already emerging through the convergence of technologies such as blockchain, spatial sound and audio, and other techniques revolutionising the way people connect with each other, spaces and assets. By leveraging the power of 3D technologies, the spatial web will allow users to interact with their environment in a more immersive and engaging way.
