I have a strong appreciation for this historic museum, which houses a variety of captivating displays across its distinct zones. Notably, the prominent whale bones situated in the central area of the main building serve as a remarkable focal point upon entering. I am particularly impressed by the dinosaur room, which provides a comprehensive narrative tracing the origins of dinosaurs. This section explores various aspects of their biology, including skin types, muscular structures, and circulatory systems. Furthermore, the museum features a mineral room that showcases an array of specimens, including gems, diamonds, gemstones, and crystals. Additionally, there is an environmental conservation display room specifically designed for children. This interactive space aims to educate young visitors while engaging them with important narratives related to environmental stewardship.

This museum is an absolute must-see! It’s full of fascinating natural history exhibits, but my favorite part was Darwin’s section, so inspiring. You can see artifacts from his voyage, and yes, even a first edition of On the Origin of Species! Don’t miss the beautiful statue of Darwin sitting right at the entrance, it really sets the tone. Admission is free (which is amazing), but I still recommend booking in advance. Get there early to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful visit. You’ll probably spend around two hours here, though it’s easy to stay longer. The big blue whale skeleton hanging in the main hall is absolutely breathtaking. It’s the largest mammal in the world, and the size of it, stretching across the entire ceiling, is something you won’t forget. There are so many cool exhibitions, from scientific discoveries to evolutionary biology. One of the special exhibits we saw was about earthquakes, it even had a Japanese store replica that shook like a real quake, which was pretty cool and immersive. The gift shops are adorable (though a bit pricey, as expected), but they do offer meaningful and themed souvenirs, perfect for taking a memorable piece of the museum home with you.

A gem of the "free" NATIONAL TRUST museums which are a fabulous testament to the British history and their appreciation of their past for the presentation to the general public. Like EVERYTHING these days, although it is "free", you MUST sign up online to get a timed entrance for admission to the museum. You CAN chance a walk-in but I believe you would be waiting a long time to get in. An astounding presentation of a LOT of displays and a LOT of specimens put out for your education and pleasure rather than just a few things such as we have at our sterile museum in Toronto. A beautiful architectural building which has been so wonderfully and efficiently used for the public. A few decent cafes within the building which offer well-made foods and beverages rather than just fast-food junk like many North American facilities.
