I've always been a fan of the Village hotels and have stayed at many great locations in the past. we decided to booked this location as it's just a little out of the city centre and we wanted to get away from the city, as we live down in London.. Now I can say we had a fairly nice stay and a lovely weekend, however it was let down. First of all, the hotel needs a really good clean and a totally revamp too. When we first arrived the staff didn't say much, and I asked the man to put us as far away at the back where it was most quite, as I had some work to do. He didn't look or seem like he was listening and he put us in the room above the entrance to the hotel. We had paid for an early check in as well. In this room we could hear everything and everyone in the hotel come and go and even at past 11pm and nearly 12am, they were letting people sit outside making noise with no thought to the others in the rooms. We could just hear the function going on in the hotel, as well as the noise from the bar. With people outside in the early hours of the morning, we didn't get much sleep at all. The room itself was very basic and over priced for two nights. Not very clean, there were problems with the shower, the bed wasn't very comfortable at all. There were hairs on the bed. The bathroom was dirty and it all needed a damn good clean. Appalling. The worse though was the noise levels, at nearly midnight and then being woken up at 5:30pm as well. The pool and spa were not bad, but again could do with a big revamp. Most of the lockers in the men's changing room that were not already being used were broken or not working (didn't open/lock) inside, the pool is a pretty good size, but it was cold! an indoor pool heated pool, was cold! We were told that the adult swimming classes finished at 2pm and had no warning of anything else. This didn't bother us so much, but a little heads up would been nice. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, but I heard a few people talking, saying the pool is to cold and the whole place needs an upgrade and I totally agree. The bar: Needed to have more staff (just to be honest) it was really busy and a bit chaotic. However the food service was really good. The food was fantastic, but the menu could do with being expanded, as there was limited choice. I can only admit that this is a bit of a mixed review, but as always I'm being honest and over all, the stay was okay, but not great! Lot's of room for improvement!
