4 flexible workspaces in Shoreditch you need to visit

The vibrant East London suburb of Shoreditch has always been a hub of innovation. Widely touted as the birthplace of English theatre and a major influencer in London fashion and street art, this area has soared in popularity over the years, both for living and working. Property prices have increased by 25% in the past five years alone, and the suburb plays home to around 15,000 businesses.

But getting a slice of the Shoreditch scene doesn't have to cost the Earth. Booking a flexible work space in one of NearU's prime locations means you only pay as and when you need to use it - and we have plenty of variety on offer. Here are our four favourite Shoreditch locations to pitch your desk.

For creatives: Protein Studios - from £5pp

It's not hard to see why Protein Studios is a firm favourite for any creatives looking to collaborate in Shoreditch. The light open plan nature of this space mixed with the harshness of its industrial features gives it a trendy feel, and would certainly make a dynamic background for anyone looking to incorporate product photography into their work day. As well as offering a variety of space, workers here are also able to access podcast equipment. Did you know we host our very own podcast here at NearU?

Collaboration is such a key principle at Protein Studios that they've gone one step further and created Protein Agency, a global brand consultancy. Joining their community gains you access to original research all around the latest consumer trends, as well as reports they've put together on diversity, friendship, Gen Z and more.

Grab a coffee at OAT

And when you're lagging in energy, what better place to visit than OAT, Protein Studios' very own on-site cafe. They specialise in vegetarian dishes, fabulous coffee, and local bakes and are open 8am till 6pm on weekdays. Did you know, vegetarian dishes may leave you feeling more energised than meat-based meals? That's at least according to Eliza Zied, dietician and author of "Nutrition at your Fingertips", who says that cutting down on meat could make you feel less sluggish, making OAT a perfect place to refuel.

Plus, working at Protein Studios means you can take advantage of 20% off coffee and 10% off food - what more could you ask for in a flexible work space?

For socialising: The Worker's League - from £5pp

Just a five minute walk from Old Street, Liverpool Street and Moorgate stations, The Worker's League puts you right at the heart of Shoreditch. Inside is a peaceful escape from the bustle of the city, as this space is a haven of natural light and indoor greenery, both of which are scientifically proven mood-boosters. You'll find a variety of working areas on offer, from their coworking lounge, to private meeting rooms, and even an outside patio.

If you've been keeping up with the news from us, you'll know NearU data recently revealed that Thursday was the most popular day for our users to book into a flexible work space. And The Worker's League seems to have hopped firmly on the mid-week bandwagon with their post-work 'Thirsty Thursday' social. Staying late at this space means you'll get to sample a selection of craft beers, wine, and whatever other treats they have on offer. It's not all work with these guys.

Organise a social at Flight Club

If you're tired of the standard pub social, why not take a work trip to Flight Club in Shoreditch. This is a bar experience unlike any other, as while you can still expect all the usual draughts on tap, you can also try your hand at a game of competitive darts.

We're speaking from experience when we say this makes a great bonding exercise - our team recently hosted a social at their Victoria location. Though we don't claim any responsibility for darts-related squabbles between coworkers the next day.

For retro-lovers: Boutique Workplace Shoreditch - from £20pp

Find this funky space just off Great Eastern Street set within the walls of a renovated 60s retro warehouse. While the ground floor functions as a lounge/bar area, the rest of the building serves as stylish office space with a mix of private areas and flexible desks - not to mention there's also a roof terrace, where you'll often find a BBQ party buzzing in summer.

With Boutique's Shoreditch location, you're not only getting access to an office but to a calendar of regular event opportunities hosted within the building. From corporate talks, to networking events, to yoga, to parties, their event space can turn its hand to any occasion.

For corporates: Boutique Workplace Liverpool Street - from £25pp*

If you're looking for a meeting room close to all the local travel links, Boutique Workplace's Liverpool Street location has got you covered. This space is ideal for anyone meeting with important corporate clients due to its minimalist, unbranded design, allowing occupants to just focus on the matter at hand. Their meeting rooms can also be kitted out with refreshments and extra amenities as required.

The rest of the office has been renovated to a high standard, with modern interiors being offset by period features like high ceilings and Georgian windows. You also get 24/7 access to this space, meaning it's the perfect place for anyone who finds themselves productive outside the typical nine-to-five working day.

*8 person meeting room priced at £200 per day.

Take a walk around Finsbury Square

If you're feeling the effects of the afternoon slump, why not get some fresh air with a stroll around Finsbury Square? This lovely green space sandwiched between a maze of office buildings is the perfect place to stretch your legs. And we're not just saying that for the sake of it.

There's actual scientific evidence that shows a walk could be more effective at boosting mood and productivity than a cup of coffee. A study by the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports found that people who walked for half an hour three times a week could cope better with their workload than those that didn't. “Lunchtime walks improved enthusiasm, relaxation, and nervousness at work,” the researchers noted. Just goes to show that what's outside the office is just as important as in.

Like the look of any of these workspaces? You can book into them easily via the NearU app, available to download from the App Store or Google Play. Or maybe you're looking for a space a little more further afield - check out our 5 favourite flexible work spaces in Hackney.
