Great gallery with two very good exhibitions at the moment - until 5th May. It has an OK cafe above the foyer, which necessarily seems crowded. There is a lift up to it, but note it only has one highchair if you are bringing young kids. The shop is very good.

I visited this gallery to go and see the Mickalene Thomas, all about love exhibition. It was fabulous. She is so talented, and her paintings and artwork are amazing. I would highly recommend it. There is some nudity, so be aware of that if you're attending with teenagers. The exhibition is ticketed, so purchase from the gallery. I went on a Sunday, and they do a pay what you can discount after a certain time. Idk if that is for all days.

My first visit to the Hayward Gallery. So first impressions? Finding the entrance was not easy. In fact the whole South Bank Centre needs to work on better wayfinding. Inside, the building is interesting architecturally and well staffed. The exhibition was Haegue Yang whose window blind installations were embarrassingly naive and not thought-provoking at all if that was the aim. The straw sculptures were however good and well crafted. This is not a big exhibition and I couldn't help wondering if the sparse attendance was due to the £15 entry fee. I am sure the cost of running the gallery is enormous but it is the age old question: low cost and more numbers or higher entry fee and low participation. And if charging a high fee what about value for money?
