The bee was adopted as a symbol by the city of Manchester in the 19th century to represent the hard-working nature of the Mancunian people - nowadays the city isn’t home to the same heavy industry as it was back then, but that’s not to say the city’s ‘buzzy’ spirit hasn’t lived on. So if you’re looking to channel some of that energy and get your head stuck into some work up north, why not try out some of our favourite spaces? And remember, you can easily book all of these with NearU (read to the end for more details).
For professionals: Landmark (Spinningfields and Chancery Place) - from £30pp
These spaces are designed and furnished to a high-standard with professionals in mind. At these locations, you’ll have access to a car park and bike rack (not to mention how close they are to Piccadilly Station), so there are plenty of options for travelling in. One thing we especially love about these Landmark spaces is that you can book into a private office space, an option which is sure to make any employee feel like a high-flying CEO.
For chilling out: incspaces (Princess Street) - from £25pp
If you like taking breaks to walk along the canal, or perhaps through the scenic Sackville Gardens, incspaces has got the location for you. Decorated with neutral tones, this space has a more traditional office feel - but, it isn’t without its quirks. Did you know, you can book a ‘virtual office’ with them if you aren’t quite ready to head back out into the world yet? We also love that they host event spaces, so if you need somewhere to put on a talk or more casual business meeting, incspaces have got you covered.
For socialisers: Colony (Piccadilly, The Astley, Jactin House) - from £20pp
Colony has not one, not two, but three fabulous spaces in central Manchester, all close to major transport links. You can of course expect high-quality working areas with super fast wifi here - but we also love the social aspect of these spaces. For example, their Piccadilly and Astley locations have great bars where you can fill up on ‘tea, coffee, fruit, and chatter’ (their words, not ours). Also, we absolutely love the roof terrace area they have available at Jactin House! The perfect place to chill out and take in city skylines in between meetings.
Use.space has been built on the core values of collaboration and entrepreneurship, which makes it the perfect space for Founders to hone their start-up ideas. As well as offering professional workspaces, they put on regular masterclasses sharing specialist knowledge on a wide range of topics, as well as business guidance from a network of mentors and investors. Another thing we love about them is their commitment to sustainability, something that we share here at NearU - head to their website for more resources.
If central Manchester is a little out of your reach, why not try VWorks’ Ashton location? We’re always shouting about Village Hotels’ answer to flexible workspaces, and this location is top tier; with access to a swimming pool, yoga studio and outdoor terrace, so there are plenty of options to wind down when work gets hectic.
You can book into any of these spaces now via NearU, available on the App Store and Google Play. No subscriptions, no sneaky overheads. Just pay-as-you-go.
