4 of the coolest flexible workspaces in Stockholm

NearU

Rest in Swedish culture is as important as work. It's about more than just taking a break in the day - in fact, it's an entire concept.

Fika, a tradition that involves taking time out from work to catch up with colleagues over coffee (and cake of course), is usually practiced every day. The concept is similar to the German kaffeeklatsch, and should be about winding down and taking some much needed relaxation time to help recharge during the working day. It can be done in a cafe, or even in a quiet corner of the office.

And lucky for you, all of NearU's Stockholm spaces have been designed with Fika in mind. So, here are four Fika-worthy workspaces you should definitely pay a visit...

For nappers: The Park Södra - from £12.80pp

Looking to add a bit more activity into your work routine? The Park at Södra could be the space for you. Spread over three floors with a mix of coworking space and private meeting areas, they also offer 'activity rooms' where you can host small events to help promote team-building and corporate morale. And when you've tired yourself out from all of that, what better place to head than their nap room!

Napping at work isn't about being lazy. Taking a short break to catch some z's has actually been proven to help boost work productivity. This practice is much more common in Europe (just look at the Spanish siesta for evidence), but people all over the world could serve to benefit. According to the CDC, more than one-third of adults aren't getting enough sleep, often less than 6 hours a night. But studies have shown that taking a mid-afternoon power nap is more energy boosting than drinking a cup of coffee! So, anyone for a lie down?

For a family: Block Stockholm - from £232pp*

You might remember us talking about Block, a workspace in the trendy suburb of Sodermalm, back in November. We caught up with co-founder, Rölf Fällström, all about how he and his team created the world's first coworking space. That's right! This is a workspace with a history spanning back over two decades!

"At the start there were only 6 of us working there, and it took a while to fill because of the economic crisis. After a couple of years we were a full house with about 25/30 people," Rolf told us. "Then we decided we wanted to move to another space in an area that we liked even better - so we moved Block to another spot here in Södermalm, which you could say is the creative hub in Stockholm."

He later added: "We've also developed more community activities, so that everyone coming in gets to know each other. Not only to improve their social lives but also to encourage business developments. We like to see it as somewhere between an office and home - almost like a family, but still a professional network."

But of course, this impressive feat isn't the only reason we suggest giving Block a visit. This light and airy office is injected with pops of bright colours to keep you feeling focussed throughout the day. There's truly nothing worse than a boring workspace, and bold colours have been shown to have more positive psychological effects on us than your traditional office grey.

Grab a bun from Fabrique Bakery

There's nothing more Scandinavian than a good cinnamon bun, so of course we had to include it in our guide. Ranked as one of the best bakeries in Södermalm, with many colloquially agreeing that they serve "the best cinnamon buns" around, Fabrique is not far from Block, located on 28 Rosenlundsgaten. So, when you're heading out to take your Fika make sure you give Fabrique a taste.

For digital workers: Impact Hub Stockholm - from £20pp

Another Stockholm space with impressive credits to its name, Impact Hub won the Member's Choice Award for Best Coworking Space back in 2018 and have since been striving to retain that title. Offering more than just space (though they do have plenty of that on offer too, with a blend of coworking and meeting areas), Impact Hub host a vibrant community of entrepreneurs, freelancers, and workers.

They're also ideal for anyone in the digital sphere, thanks to their on-site Digital Media Studio, equipped with podcasting and video recording equipment; they regularly put on workshops and events to help you launch your website, podcast, or online event.

Impress big clients with dinner at Smak

One of Stockholm's best restaurants, Smak is just a stone's throw from Impact Hub. This stunning space is the place to impress big clients or wow your colleagues. They have a strong focus on flavours in their menu, serving small but powerful dishes that have a distinctly Scandinavian quality. They also boast an extensive vegetarian menu (that can also be made vegan) - so why not tuck into some pesto broccoli, marinated celeriac, or tartare tofu?
